Whimsical Lettering
I love to letter but I have always hated my handwriting. I've been trying for a while to make it look better and have learnt a little bit of calligraphy and some brush lettering in the pursuit. I have also read books and tried several other embellishment techniques. From everything that I have seen and learnt, brush lettering and this form of whimsical lettering are my favorite.
Earlier in my Elevenses with MZ series I shared how to start brush lettering and we went over some basic supplies and free resources that are available. I also went over some things to avoid and a few essentials to invest in. You can see that post and episode here.
In this episode I will share with you a way to make basic letters look fun. I created an entire online course revolving around this technique that you can find in the courses section. In this short tutorial I give you all the basics you need to start. The possibilities with this technique are truly endless and I still come up with different ways to embellish my letters. This is such a fun activity to do while travelling or waiting around various offices etc. I get most of my lettering done waiting for flights at airports.
Without further ado here is the latest episode of Elevenses with MZ.
As with any art form, practice makes perfect. The supplies needed for this project are so simple you probably already have them at home. So start lettering by writing out your favorite words and then start embellishing them. Use small lines, swirls, dots and everything in between.
Here are some samples from my lettering class that you can try and incorporate in your exercises.
