Artists in Residence – Susanne Rose from Eching, Germany

The Artists in Residence video and blog series is a look into the quarantined lives of artists and creatives all over the world! The interview questions offer an insight into how different people from all over the world are coping with the current Covid-19 pandemic. Each artist also shares a fun little project you can do at home!

This episode of the series features Susanne Rose, an artist from Eching, Germany. I have fallen in love with Susanne's colorful work and beautiful projects. A lot of them speak to me because I feel they can be made with materials on hand. Especially some of the journals. You can see some of her amazing work in this blog post and she has also made a video for all of us to share some of her techniques!

Q. Tell us a little about yourself.

I'm Susanne Rose, a mixed media artist and stamp designer from Germany.  I started painting and drawing when I was a teenager. It's my passion and I am happy to work as a full time artist. My husband and I are the owners of Rubber Dance. We are manufacturing high quality vulcanized red rubber stamps:  https://www.rubberdance.de

Q. How has art helped you to cope with this pandemic? What activities do you do?

Art turns my day to a normal day, which is very important for me. I love to paint outside.

 Q. Do you have any rituals our routines that you have stuck with?

I do more sports these days. I prefer nordic walking or taking a bicycle tour with the kids.

Q. What is one activity you suggest folks do at this time? Could be link to a video - a podcast - a recipe - anything.

Every Thursday Rea Garvey makes The Yellow Jacket Session live on YouTube and Instagram. I love his music and this is so amazing!

Q. Tell us about the project you're sharing with us today.

The project I am sharing are two artist trading cards. I really enjoy working on such a small size (2.5“ x 3.4“). It's a perfect way to try out new techniques or new art supplies. For the cards I used one of my digital printables. You can download this for free from my website: https://susannerose.com/freebies/

Q. Where can we find more inspiration from you?

You will find around 500 mixed media videos on my YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/SusanneRose
